Talay and Hidden Falls
Talay and Hidden Falls of Luiciana Laguna.
December 27 2020
Talay Falls - 30-45 minute treck
Hidden Falls - 10-15 minute treck
Hulugan Falls is one of the famous attraction in barangay San Salvador however it was suggested by my tourist guide, Sir Mark Macasinag known as Mac Mac to check the Talay and Hidden Falls first before the Hulugan Falls cause the trail going to Talay and Hidden are a little easier than in Hulugan. It was fine with me , since I already visited Hulugan Falls last December 7 2020, but this time I visited the place with high waters and strong currents due to 2 LPA'S in the country. I was advised at that time that only Hulugan Falls can be visited but since I want a different experience, I was allowed to visit the 2 waterfalls.
So, goodluck sa akin... LOL
The usual trail going to Talay Falls is to cross the man made concrete flooring for tourist. This took months before it was completed, I was inforrmed at that time the currents are very strong and high waters as well so we took another route. We reached the area where the lagoon is located but you will not be able to see that in the photo below due to high currents but this is what you can do in this area when the currents are back to normal.
1. The lagoon is a natural jaccuzi where people can enjoy. kids can also enjoy this area and swim safely as long as it is guided by an adult all the time.
2. As per my tourist guide, some tourist were taught how to swim in this area.
3. You will also see a Carabao laying down on the grass area which is where the history of Hulugan Falls started.
This was such an adventure for me. Once you crossed the lagoon, about a 10 minute treck you will reach the campsite where you can stay overnight. Here are the details.
1. If you prefer to stay overnight, the price would be 1000.00 for the tour guide instead of 500.00. The cost only covers 5 tourist plus an overnight fee of 100.00 each tourist. The Tour guide will be looking out for you on your entire stay for you safety.
2. Bonfires are allowed and the Tour guide will take care of the wood while you are enjoying your stay
3. You can borrow cooking equipment at no extra cost.
4. You can also do fishing in the area for "Hito" and "Tilapia" and the cost is only 50.00 per kilo..IMAGINE THAT...very cheap yet you experience how to fish
5. There are comfort rooms in the campsite beside the famous "PANDAN TREE" where the locals use it to make pandan bags for puto-bungbong
6. The campsite is a perfect place to do stargazing. Be sure to bring you camera.
10 minutes more, you will reach the Talay Falls. As per my local tourist guide, the name Talay came from the name of "Ginoong Talay" who was once the owner of the area and for their traditions during their time, places were named after to the person who owns the area.
The Talay Falls has 2 levels that you can visit but it is not advisable by the tour guides for people who don't know how to swim. There are areas in Talay Falls that are deep especially the second level that has a swimming area of 45 feet with strong currents that can drag you down. However, you can take beautiful pictures within the area. There are also some wooden panels where you can sit and relax. Then on the top level, you will see the Hidden Falls. There is not much of a history about this waterfall since it was named by the tourist because the water fall is hidden. Swimming area of Hidden Falls is 30 feet. But the current here is extremely strong. For you to reach the area, you need to climb using a rope just and be sure that your wearing proper hiking shoes cause the rocks here are extremely slippery.
This was a great experience for me as a solo traveler. Incase you will be visiting Luisiana Laguna, I highly recommend to look for Sir Lyson and Sir Mac-Mac. One of the best tour guides I had so far.
